Ferryn Nowatzki is currently studying art at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and is originally from the Yukon Territory, Canada. Born and raised in the north, Ferryn is constantly inspired by the colourful northern flora and fauna, from alpine wildflowers and tundra landscapes to the animals that roam there. Many of the images in her artwork are based on abstracted styles of folk art. Ferryn finds inspiration in small everyday things as well, which can be anything from a piece of fabric to a postcard. Bright, intense colours are a constant in Ferryn’s art. Her paintings consist of acrylic on wood panels, incorporating pencil and pen and some collage as well. Through her paintings, Ferryn hopes to convey a sense of whimsy and provoke a sense of wonder for the natural world around us as well as the world which only resides within our imaginations.
